Starfield's Premium Edition has been marked down to $70, effectively making the Shattered Space DLC free before its official release. The Premium Edition now boasts a 30% discount on Steam, reducing its price to $69.99, which matches the launch price of the base game. This offer is available until July 11.
While it may seem somewhat cynical, it’s accurate to say that this discount on the Starfield Premium Edition practically offers the forthcoming Shattered Space DLC at no additional cost. Essentially, you’re paying the same amount as you would for the standard edition but with the expansion included. Note that this discount appears exclusive to Steam, so it may not apply if you’re playing on a console or using the Xbox PC launcher.
Alternatively, this is an excellent deal for those who don't already own Starfield and aren’t subscribed to Game Pass, where the game is available for free to subscribers. Despite a reception that isn’t as warm as other major Bethesda releases, there’s considerable anticipation around Shattered Space. So, if you’re undecided, now might be a good time to jump in.
Director Todd Howard recently provided insights on the scope of the Shattered Space DLC and what players can anticipate from the new content. He compared it to Fallout 4's Far Harbor expansion, noting that the bulk of the DLC will unfold in a completely new area specifically designed for it. Bethesda has the chance to adopt a more conventional approach to crafting this environment.
According to him, the new area allows for traditional landscape building, complete with a city and quests. This story will unfold within this new landscape, and they’re aiming for a scale similar to the Far Harbor expansion in Fallout 4, making it suitable for their development of annual story expansions.
Shattered Space is expected to be released sometime this year.
