The upcoming PS5 Pro is poised to bring significant advancements to PSVR 2 games, according to insights shared by Mark Cerny from Sony. This announcement offers hope to PSVR 2 enthusiasts, ensuring that they are on a hopeful trajectory with the new console.
In a conversation with Cnet, Cerny, who is the head system architect for the PS5 Pro, highlighted that the enhanced GPU of this mid-generation console will greatly enhance the gaming experience on PSVR 2. He emphasized improvements in resolution along with Sony’s AI-driven upscaling technology that will extend its benefits to all VR games. This likely includes the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) mentioned in the specifications for the PS5 Pro.
While Cerny didn't specify any titles during his remarks or at the PS5 Pro Technical Presentation, it's reasonable to anticipate that popular titles like Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Gran Turismo 7 and the virtual reality experience of Resident Evil 4 will experience enhancements thanks to the upgraded hardware. This adds to the excitement for current PSVR 2 owners, as it reassures them that their investment in the $549 / £529 headset remains relevant with the new console priced at $699.99 / £699.99.
Considering the PSVR 2 specifications, the headset features a resolution of 2,000 pixels for each individual panel 2,040. The prospect of the PS5 Pro’s AI upscaling pushing that resolution closer to 4K is intriguing. While it is yet to be confirmed, this improvement seems plausible given the significant power increase of the new console.
The PS5 Pro is expected to debut on November 7, accompanied by pre-orders beginning in September 26. Consumers can most reliably purchase it through PlayStation Direct, although other major retailers are also expected to have availability.
