Sackboy's journey has reached a significant turning point with the announcement of upcoming changes affecting LittleBigPlanet 3 and its downloadable content. PlayStation Studios has revealed that the game, along with all its paid DLC, will be taken down from the PlayStation Store later this year.
The LittleBigPlanet series shared on social media that after a decade of engaging with the game, both LittleBigPlanet 3 and its entire suite of content that can be downloaded will no longer be accessible for purchase after October 31, 2024. Those who already own the game or any DLC prior to this date will retain access to their content following its removal from sale.
This serves as a significant notification for participants and new fans alike; if anyone desires a digital copy of LittleBigPlanet 3 or existing DLC, this is the final opportunity to obtain them before they disappear from the store.
Recently, Sackboy's adventures and the creative community behind LittleBigPlanet have faced significant challenges. In 2021, all servers were taken offline due to hacks and inappropriate player-generated content, although the PS4 version made a return shortly thereafter. As it stood, LittleBigPlanet 3 became the sole platform for players to enjoy a wealth of user-created content accumulated over 16 years.
Unfortunately, that relief was brief as Sony unexpectedly shut down the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 earlier this year, denying fans the chance to say farewell to the levels they had created. While physical copies of LittleBigPlanet 3 will remain functional after the game's digital discontinuation, players will lose access to the servers that enabled the sharing and viewing of peer creations, along with the various media from developer Media Molecule.
This digital removal serves as a critical reminder of the significance of physical copies in preserving games, particularly with the forthcoming PS5 Pro and its add-on disc drive. Although new titles for the PS5 may arrive, none can truly fill the space left by Sackboy's charming presence.
