Spotify, originating from Sweden and specializing in audio streaming, has announced an increase in charges across all its premium services in the United States. The company's intention behind this decision is to "deliver the finest experience possible" to its users. American subscribers of Spotify Premium will be alerted through an email, which will outline the details of the price adjustment and its implications on their current subscription model. This email will also provide guidance for those who decide to unsubscribe from Spotify Premium.
Through a recent announcement on its official blog, Spotify has shared that the rate for its Individual subscription plan has risen to $11.99 monthly, a dollar more than the previous cost. The Duo subscription is now set at $16.99 after a $2 increase, and the Family subscription plan has undergone a $3 raise, thereby setting the new price at $19.99. Contrarily, the cost for the Student subscription remains unchanged, staying at $5.99 per month, as confirmed by the company on Monday.
This adjustment marks the second instance of a price escalation by Spotify within a year, following the initial adjustment in July 2024 across all premium categories, which included a $1 augmentation for the Individual plan.
By implementing these new prices, Spotify expressed their objective of investing in and innovating their platform's features to continually provide an unparalleled user experience. Current subscribers in the U.S. can anticipate an email within the next month detailing the implications of this revision on their subscriptions.
Spotify also noted that new subscribers currently using the trial offer will benefit from the old pricing for one month before transitioning to the adjusted rates.
Following the new pricing scheme, Spotify Premium's cost now surpasses that of Apple Music. Both platforms offer their Student plans at $5.99 monthly. Nonetheless, Apple Music's Individual plan is slightly more affordable, at $10.99. The most notable difference lies in the Family plan, where Apple Music charges $16.99, making it $3 cheaper than Spotify’s equivalent plan. Furthermore, Apple Music introduces a $4.99 Voice plan, a more economical option enabling access to its music library through Siri.
